Eric, your path kind of mirrors my own into naturism. I too liked to be naked at home as a teenager when no one was around. My parents, however, did let me skinny dip by myself in our pool. While you traveled the US and discovered naturism my first experience was while I was stationed in (West) Germany in the 1970's with Uncle Sam. I've also recently participated in some nude runs but I will emphatically state that I am NOT a serious runner. Finally, my wife is supportive of my naturism but does not participate; it's just my "eccentricity".

I'm a Californian, nearly 82, married to a Native American who has been a long time nudist from her 20s. I've need a nudist since 2008. I never thought about or considered nudism until then. Funny story: I went to a weight loss company to lose weight. During the presentation, I was asked what I wanted to do when I would get to my goal weight (I had no idea). Finished presentation and was asked again. I blurted out, "that I would be comfortable at a nudist "colony."😄 When I hit my goal, I was asked again. "Did you go?" No. When I did go, (60 miles away) I almost got off the freeway 5 times before getting there 😠Once I got there, took me 20 minutes to get courage to go in, I loved it.
My wife and I are moving full-time to Glen Eden Sun Club to live there for the rest of our lives. Absolutely love nudism, the lifestyle, the people, our many friends their.
