I guess the things is no matter how tactful we are and no matter what our own intentions if the word is badly used by others it creates the wrong connotations. I have never picked up on any negative connotations but we just need to be careful and not create enemies from those who mean us no harm, no matter how inadvertently it may happen.
I cringe when I read the word "nudist" or "nudism" for example. To me it is so linked to sexual imagery on the internet and websites used by swingers and sexual sharers. If a word get used in the wrong way it gets damaged. I know many people still see the words as their perfectly fine words for "naturist" or "naturism." I just don't see it in that light it sounds "naughty."
If we took a lovely word like "blueberry" and started using it to describe people who create false accounts on social media for sexual purposes. "Delete him he is a blueberry" - "I don't use that site it is full of blueberries" - "I think he is blueberrying you!" - then it wouldn't be long before we started to dislike the word and then we would start to feel uncomfortable about using it for the sweet and tasty fruit. The crazy thing is that in todays social media world if a few people did start using it then it would soon catch on.
I think textile was a word that was used by some without a reason to believe it was offensive but maybe because naturists do feel a certain amount of annoyance and mistreatment at some of the complaints, threats and abuse sent our way then some maybe have started to consider the word does represent a them and us situation which we have no want to foster and encourage. We must stand by our rights and protect and support naturism - but we would never wish to do that by fighting the rest of the world - we need to get the average fair minded person to contemplate that naturism is harmless and healthy fun. We need to find the best way to do this. Steve and I have always been aware that these people are our allies. Using textile was never a negative in our view. It is the protestors and acusers that are our enemies and the perverts and socially sexual that do our lifestyle damage.

Does that make them Textilists, or Marksist?
