Horsey / Winterton Dunes are located a few miles north of Great Yarmouth. The dunes are a SSI nature reserve beware of adders and grass snakes.

Walk to the North in the dunes. Once out of the view of the car park it is normally possible to disrobe and walk up to Horsey gap.

The beach has suffered like all beaches from tidal erosion and there can be deep drops over the wooden groynes just take care before you leap for joy over them. Nearer Horsey there are Norwegian rock armored sea defenses now mostly submerged by the sand. This is where most naturist can be found
There are sand bars just of the shore which can be tempting to walk out to - but watch the tide it creates deep spots near the shore!

As with most beaches along the East Coast, an onshore wind from the North Sea can be a problem, so windbreaks are recommended or shelter can be found in the dunes behind it.

The summer months it gets busy, but it’s definitely not one of those beaches that has limited space, and it doesn’t get nearly as busy as its neighbour Hemsby, or even Great Yarmouth.

Seals at Winterton Beach. If you want to see the seals, they aren’t on Winterton beach but a little further north on the coast at Horsey. Walking from this beach to Horsey beach is easy and with spectacular views of the hundreds of seals basking on the sand, or looking after their pups. It’s a truly wonderful sight and worth the walk.
