The Brno dam is a reservoir 2.5 km2. Located in the northwest of the city and occupies the territory of the Bystrc and Knínicky districts. It was built in the years 1936-40 on the river Svratka into the local forest and rocky landscape.
The former official name was the Kniniská dam - its original homes came from the inhabitants of the old Kninicek, whose debris may still be found today. It was mainly due to the regulation of the water state in the river Svratka under the dam (flood prevention, minimal flow control).
