I don't read as much as I want to. It's certainly true that when I was a kid I read way more than I do today. That said, back in those days I don't have to read that many emails as I have to today, especially at work.
We do have books around the house. The kids used to have their own story book stacks and the essential Harry Potter's. I have a bookshelf full of text books from college and thereafter. I have no idea why I kept them but I guess it's the inner child of mine who wanted to remind myself that I once spent a fortune to receive an education and that I should make good use of it. Interesting that the collection now helps my boys expand on their academic horizon. I took electives in psychology and astronomy and those books were now picked up by them.
Apart from that I like to buy guide books at whatever tourist sites we visit. Not only are those useful during the sightseeing, they are also good reminders of our adventure after they land on the bookshelf.
Another collection of books I have are cookbooks. I am nowhere close to what are pictured in those publications but I like to keep the aspiration going. They give me inspiration on how to deal with dinner too, if I have time to make an elaborate one!
Last but not least, I have a number of naturist publications, including a stack of AANR's Bulletins and FCN's Being Natural. When we were at Cypress Cove a couple years ago, I specifically bought a copy of TNS's Nude and Natural that carried an article of the youth camp at Sunsport Gardens. My boys joined that year and I'm happy to see them featured.
So... we are definitely not reading as much as we should, but we do love having books around.

As a child I read nearly everything by Lloyd Alexander and as a young adult, a lot of Tom Clancy. These days I don't read novels as often as I'd like but I still enjoy returning to the classics. My favorite authors include Tolkien and Verne. I've read most of their works and have copies of them scattered around the house.

Airclad, sounds like we share some preferences in reading. My wife and I also like the classics. Two years ago, we went through about 20 of them because they had been on our shelves for years and we had to dust them off. We've also read The Chronicles of Narnia together several times, and we read The Hobbit and the rings trilogy together.
I don't think she'd be interested in much of Clancy; but I've read some and I also like Ken Follett and Robert Ludlum.
