Vama Veche is situated in the southeast of Romania—right on the Black Sea coast, The village has been regarded as a bohemian, non-mainstream tourist destination since communist times. And the beach is where all the alternative youth of Romania go to hang out, and camp on the beach.

It has a hippy atmosphere and half of the beach is nudist, especially on the Northern part where the beach ends and the area is less crowded. There is an unwritten rule that anyone visiting Vama Veche should always camp on the beach and boycott the recent built hotels and businesses in order to restore the place back to the old look and hippie vibe.
