O’Neill Bay is found on the West Coast of the North Island, close to Auckland in the Waitakere Ranges. It is a popular surfing and fishing spot, despite the fact that it can only be reached on foot from Bethells Beach (not easy at high tide) also makes it a great choice for some unofficial nude bathing. It is a treasure, and well worth the extra steps.
There are also stunning lakes that can be reached from here. Wild, secluded, and surrounded by native bush rich in birdsong. Its exposed and turbulent nature swimmers are advised to stick to the patrolled area at Bethells Beach.
