Cable Beach is situated on the north side of Gantheaume Point, at Broome in Western Australia's Kimberley region.
It deserves its reputation as one of the world’s top beaches. Its 22 kilometre-long stretch of long pure white flat sand, set against a backdrop of red ochre cliffs and fringed by the gentle turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean make it perfect for swimming.
North of the rocks Cable beach becomes a clothing optional beach. From November to May, the tropical waters around Broome can be home to the Irukandji jellyfish - a small poisonous jellyfish, no longer than a human finger. Please pay attention to warning signs around the area, and listen to instruction from surf lifesavers.
Should you be stung by a jellyfish, wash in vinegar (vinegar stations are situated at the entrances to Cable Beach)At the southern end of Cable Beach is Gantheaume Point where at low tide, you can see 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints. You can watch for dolphins and migrating whales in season at Gantheaume Point Lighthouse.
