A stunning unspoilt sandy little bay with dramatic white cliffs towering overhead. It is hidden around the corner from Cooks beach.
Offering some trees for shade and some interesting rock formations as well as sand and shells. Great for kids with a couple of very small caves to explore.
This bay got its name as its not uncommon to be the only person there and for this reason it has become a popular spot among naturists.

- Facilities There are some toilets near the top look out. Alternatively head to Eggcentric Cafe, which is approximately 100 meters towards Whitianga which serve meals, drinks and ice-creams.

- Ease of Access Lonely Bay beach is just a short walk from the car park, a stairway was constructed in 2005 to make it an easier 10 walk to get to the beach.

- Directions Access to Lonely Bay is a few minutes drive up Purangi Road from Cooks Beach settlement and then turn off onto an unsealed road signposted for Shakespeare Cliff. As you drive up here there is a turn-off to the right for the Lonely Bay car park
