The Groene Ster is a recreation area of approximately 1000 hectare, and lies on the Eastern side of Leeuwarden.
There are different beaches for everybody’s liking, a family beach, a nude beach and a dog beach.
From 1995 nudism was officially allowed on part of the island, where one can enjoy both sand beaches and laying meadows. There are no facilities, but in the textile area situated just 700 meters away you will find a seasonal kiosk open daily and toilets. There are also many festivals held here throughout the year.
