Waitata Bay also known as Donkey Bay, This is the closest to an official naturist beach in Northland. In late 2007, Waitata Bay, which had been used informally for decades by nude bathers, gained the rare distinction of being officially signposted as a naturist beach following an agreement with a local landowner.
It is about 2 kilometers from Russell in the Bay of Islands and next to Long beach. On the way down to the beach you will be greeted by National Trust covenant near the track which, at the bottom 'bullet point', confirms the permanent naturist status of this idyllic spot with the line: "Waitata Bay is a naturist beach". This gorgeous little cove nestles amid native bush is secluded and perfect calm waters, golden sands and great snorkeling make it a perfect setting for getting back to nature.
